Eastern-Europe, full of hidden treasures which will be the perfect destination for a city trip. Everyone is known with the cities like Budapest, Prague or Kiev. But not everyone knows that there are a lot of beautiful places beyond these three cities.
In this article we will tell you something about 5 beautiful destinations in Eastern-Europe, which every person needs to see at one point in his life. Not only are these cities suitable for the elderly, but as a student these are beautiful (and cheap) places to visit.
Tallinn
Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. A beautiful city where you will see a combination of the medieval and the modern society. The city consists of a medieval centre, with a lot of beautiful architecture.
If you enter the centre through the Viru Gates, you will literally think that you entered the medieval ages.
A couple of streets away from the Viru Gates, you can find the Town hall square. Where you could find the markets In the past. Nowadays the square is filled with restaurants all over the place.
There are a couple of other sights that you can’t miss in the old city centre.
One of the oldest buildings in town and definitely a keystone to the city is the St. Olaf church. It was built in the 12th century and it is a must visit when you are in Tallinn. A newer addition to Tallinn is the Alexander Nevski Cathedral. It was built in the 19th century, while Estonia was still part of the Soviet Union. This can be found in the architecture of the cathedral.
Other things that you might like when you are visiting Tallinn are: the beautiful ancient harbour, one of the peaceful parks or you could enjoy the nightlife in one of the amazing nightclubs or in a cosy pub.

Sarajevo
Sarajevo, The capital of Bosnia Herzegovina, a city full of history.
One of the most important events this city has seen was the start of world war 1. The archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife where shot dead in the middle of the city. This place is marked with a stone plaque to remember the cruel event. Around 80 years later Sarajevo was involved in a war again. During the Bosnian war, Sarajevo was bombed by Bosnian fighters. An impressive sight to see which was very important for the civilians of Sarajevo in the Bosnian war is the Tunnel of Hope. It is located next to the airport, and this was the only connection Sarajevo had with the rest of the world.
Next to all the war related sights, Sarajevo offers a lot of different beautiful places to see.
Another famous sight in Sarajevo is the bobsled track which was used in the 1984 Winter Olympics.You can walk over the Latin Bridge, near the monument of the dead of Franz Ferdinand, towards the old part of town. Here you can go to the Bascarsija Square, where you will find the bazaar of Sarajevo.
All of these sights are really interesting and beautiful, but to get the most beautiful view of Sarajevo, you need to go to the Yellow Fortress. This is a lookout where you can have a beatiful view over the city.

Bratislava
Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. In the middle of the city you wild find the Donau. One of the biggest European rivers. In Bratislava you will find a lot of sights which are all very impressive and have beautiful architecture.
To begin with, there is the likes of the Bratislava castle. This will offer you a beautiful view over the city. Inside of the castle, there is a museum where they have a lot of precious objects, like the crown jewels.
Next to this there are a lot of other places you could visit in Bratislava, like the 15th century St. Martin Cathedral, which is the largest church from Bratislava.
Other beautiful buildings you could visit are:
- The Grassalkovich Palace, which nowadays serves as the presidential residence.
- Elisabeth Art Nouveau Church, also called ‘The blue church’
- Slavin, which is the largest war memorial in Eastern Europe.
- Most SNP, or the UFO Bridge. It is a bridge in the middle of the city straight over the Donau. On top of the bridge there is a restaurant shaped as a UFO.
As you can see, there is a lot of things you can do in Bratislava, next to this the city is very cheap and has lots of nice spots to have a drink or grab some food.

Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca, a city which probably the most of you have never heard of. It is located in Transylvania, Romania. An area which mostly is known for Dracula, but that’s a different story. If you really want to visit the castle of Dracula it will be a drive of approximately 4 hours.
In Cluj there are multiple sights that you need to see before you leave.
First of all the Sint-Michaëls Church, which is the second largest church in Transylvania and can be found in the centre of Cluj. Next to the church you can find the Matthias Corvinus monument. This was a Hungarian king, which was born in Cluj.
A couple of other sights that are really beautiful are: The Piarists’ Church, the Cluj-Napoca Art Museum and the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral.
Cluj-Napoca is also known for the nature which can be found around the city. You can find multiple parcs, a beautiful botanic garden and even a haunted forest near Cluj.
Next to these beautiful sights to see, the night life in Cluj is really big and really great. Cluj is a city full of students, so there are a lot of bars and clubs to visit in the late hours.

Wroclaw
Wroclaw, one of the biggest cities of Poland. How is it possible that everyone knows the cities Krakow and Warsaw but no-one knows Wroclaw.
Here are some reasons why you should go to Wroclaw:
First of all you can find beautiful architecture in Wroclaw,, there are a lot of sights you need to see, with the likes of ‘Rynek’(The market square), Centennial Hall, ‘Ratusz’ (Town Hall) and the Cathedral of St. John the Bapist you won’t be bored. And these are just 3 sights from many more.
Next to that there is a lot of nature in Wroclaw you can enjoy. Wroclaw actually are 12 small islands surrounded by water with a total of 112 bridges which make it one city. Enjoy a nice walk in the evening next to the Oder or escape the busy city and relax in the beautiful botanic garden.
You can also find the oldest and largest zoo from Poland in Wroclaw.
Finally, with the university of Wroclaw the city is full of students. This means, the city has an amazing night life.
At the Rynek you can find a lot of pubs, bars and restaurants, where you can go for something to eat or for something to drink.If you want to go to a real club to have an amazing night you can literally go everywhere. There are so many clubs in Wroclaw, you can almost find one in every street.
